Oana Popescu is the director and founder of the GlobalFocus Center, a think tank of foreign policy and strategic analysis. Political analyst, specializing in international politics, with studies at Yale as a Fulbright Fellow and specialization at Harvard, Oana Popescu was Secretary of State for European Affairs in the Ministry of Labor, Family, Social Protection and the Elderly in 2016. Currently, she continues her career as an initiator and manager of international projects (i.e. the transfer of Romania’s reform experience to other states, especially in the Balkans, the former Soviet Union, the Middle East; analysis of regional military and societal security vulnerabilities), business consultant, lecturer , researcher, author and media commentator.

Previously, she was Program Director of the Aspen Romania Institute, foreign policy advisor to the President of the Senate (Mircea Geoana) and Senior Editor of the magazine Foreign Policy (FP) Romania, the national franchise of the prestigious international publication. As a former journalist, she worked from Afghanistan, Kosovo or the Middle East, to Brussels and the United States, where she was a press correspondent.

In various societies, over centuries, political leaders have made use of many skills and tricks to keep women power under control. On the other hand, power comes with responsibility – always. Admitting that you are strong means taking responsibility for this power. Sometimes that overwhelms.”
