Alexandra Gatej, Founder of Society of Healthy People. Since July 5th 2018, Alexandra Gatej recorded 1014 kilometres walking. Walking became her passion and she has already bored all her friends about the wonders of walking both collectively and alone. She walks to almost all her meetings, back and forth from the office and just about everywhere she can. Professionally, she walked from her home town of Sibiu to Bucharest, graduating in Cybernetics in the communist summer of 1988. Eventually, she walked into the marketing department of the Unilever headquarters, where she remained for the next 16 years. Walking to Italy and Czech Republic as an expat and later returning to Romania as Marketing Director and then Chairman for the Balkans – first Romanian and the first woman appointed in such a position.

As a Wharton University Executive Class Program graduate, she was then invited to climb the stairs of the highest public office of the country and was appointed Economic Advisor to the President of Romania (2009-2011) after which she started her own management consulting company. Being part of the life of the country was always important to her and she often walked to help start, join or lead various organizations such as Aspen Institute of Romania (Founding Member), Amcham Romania (twice Chair), Energy Policy Group (Founding Member), New Strategy Center (Founding Member), Culinary Association of Transylvania (Founding Member). She founded SOS – Society of Healthy People – with the main objective to spread the benefits and importance of Walking, via a range of very selective and well-crafted programs.

”Whoever is afraid of feminism, is afraid to admit and accept that, fundamentally, women are strong beings. In various societies, over centuries, political leaders have made use of many skills and tricks to keep women power under control. On the other hand, power comes with responsibility – always. Admitting that you are strong means taking responsibility for this power. Sometimes that overwhelms.”
